Regarding Process Discovery, and speaking only in fully automated processes, I find today a complete waste of time and money gathering people, caring on flow charting sessions, side by side workshops with process participants.

Process Mining is the future for process discovery. Fully automated, unbiased, crystal clear and shows the truth (no more hidden agendas or sunny day process visions). Process improvement teams can jump immediately to process improvement rather than raking weeks to understand how the process is actually structured.

Process Mining will become the standard to such activities. With more than a decade on process improvement sessions I always found a project bottleneck driving effort to start working, I mean, put people minds on the process future rather than figuring out what is being made today.
